Reproductive Coercion Toolkit

,

The National Organization Against Sexism (NOMAS) and the Feminist Women’s Health Center of Atlanta, in collaboration with The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), have developed and created a training and information toolkit for anti-violence, women’s health centers, and collaborative agencies on the impact of reproductive and sexual coercion and intimate partner violence.

The vision was to create a program that educates and informs those working within assistance agencies about the concepts, dynamics, assessment, and impact of reproductive and sexual coercion and intimate partner violence; how the issues associated with this form of abuse intersect; how to assess and provide the best service, assistance and support to victims; and how agencies can partner together to make the biggest impact. The project consisting of the following:

  • Fact sheets, brochures, safety plan suggestions and other materials about the signs, dynamics, and impact of reproductive and sexual coercion and intimate partner violence to be given to people seeking assistance;
  • Similar materials geared towards those serving those seeking assistance;
  • Assessment tools for reproduction counselors and health care practitioners to identify victims of reproductive coercion who are seeking medical or reproductive health care, and to provide referrals and/or advocacy to other needed resources (shelters, DV centers, police, or courts);
  • Assessment tools for advocates, shelters, DV centers, counseling centers, schools, judicial system, and police, to identify victims of reproductive coercion who are seeking other support, and to provide referrals and/or advocacy to other needed resources (shelters, DV centers, police, or courts);
  • Training materials geared towards how anti-violence and other advocates can best serve and support victims seeking assistance; and
  • Training materials geared towards those serving those seeking assistance on creating and maintaining partnerships with collaborative agencies.
  • Training materials geared towards engaging men and boys to promote healthy, respectful, gender equitable relationships, and to recognize and understand reproductive coercion.
  • Understanding State Sanctioned Reproductive Coercion.
