Sent to Representatives in New Hampshire, who were to vote on a proposal that would lead to de-criminalizing Prostitution in New Hampshire (posted 2/15/17)
Dear Representative,
I speak on behalf of a 35 year old national men’s network (Nomas.org) which among other things, looks very closely at the “commercial sex industry.”
“De-criminalizing prostitution” sounds sexy, “modern” and attractive in some ways, at first glance, but it would actually be a massive disaster. It would make a profitable exploitation system – the cynical sale of young women (and boys), by men to other men – much, worse than it already is. The “pimp-network” reaps the profits, and is now essentially in control of this lucrative system. “De-criminalizing” it would put them, and no one else, entirely in control.
We should stop prosecuting those women and children who are being sold as commodities, and seriously target the sadistic men who sell, and the cynical uncaring men who buy. This is known as the “Nordic” approach, and it is the only modern legal response that has clearly diminished the levels of prostitution in Sweden and other countries employing it.
You can learn more about the realities of prostitution / trafficking at our web site, www.Nomas.org.
Respectfully, Dr. Robert Brannon, Chair
National Task Group on Trafficking
I am glad to report that the NH Representatives tabled and killed the proposal.
