2009 BrotherPeace Award goes to Barry Goldstein

,

The Ending Men’s Violence Network of NOMAS addresses all forms of violence by men, particularly in the context of patriarchal privilege and sexism.  The EMV-Net is especially active in working against domestic abuse, but also addresses sexual harassment, rape and sexual assault, and the abuse of women in trafficking, prostitution and pornography.

The EMV-Net periodically awards its National BrotherPeace Award to an individual who has made significant lifetime achievements in combating Men’s Violence, or whose cwrrent work strongly exemplifies the principles of NOMAS and the Ending Men’s Violence Network.

The 2009 BrotherPeace Award:  Barry Goldstein
(Presented at the 34th National Conference on Men and Masculinity, Portland, OR, October 28, 2009)

Barry Goldstein is a nationally recognized domestic violence expert, speaker, writer and advocate. He is an instructor and supervisor in a N.Y. Model Batterer Program. Mr. Goldstein is the author of SCARED TO LEAVE AFRAID TO STAY and is co-editor with Dr. Mo Hannah of a new book, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, ABUSE and CHILD CUSTODY that will be published early in 2010.
Barry practiced law for 30 years, frequently representing victims of domestic violence, often on a pro bono or reduced fee basis. His license was recently suspended by the N.Y. court system in retaliation for exposing an abusive judge who destroyed the lives of many women and children.

The unprincipled decision has been condemned by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), NOMAS, Battered Mothers Custody Conference, N.Y. National Organization for Women, Stop Family Violence, and many others. In January of 2009 immediately after the court decision, the Battered Mothers Custody Conference gave its BELIEVERS AWARD to Barry Goldstein.
